Donetsk Mine-Rescue Equipment Plant was founded in the beginning of 1920th when in Makeevka, one of the Donetsk suburbs, mechanical workshops started working to repair foreign-made breathing apparatuses at the first mining rescue station which was organized in the South of Russia in 1908.

In 1938 the workshop started the full-scale production of indigenous breathing apparatus and other types of mine rescue appliances.

In 1960 the workshops were moved to the city of Donetsk and since 1966 they have been reorganized into the plant manufacturing the equipment for individual rescue of workers in mining, chemical, metallurgical and other industries, as well as equipment for professional rescue teams working in mines, at fires, and natural disasters.

The products of the plant are well-known and are widely used not only in Ukraine but also in Russia, Kazakhstan, Chech Republic, Poland, Iran, India, South Korea, South Africa and other countries. Local and foreign customers value plant's products for their high quality and proven reliability.

The management system for quality control has been implemented since 1996 in accordance with the international standard ISO 9001:2000.

The main products for the professional rescue teams are regenerative closed circuit breathing apparatus P-30 and P-34. These devices are used to perform mine rescue and technical jobs in the mines as well as at other areas where breathing protection is needed.

A model range of chemical oxygen self rescuers SSS-1 is the main product of Donetsk Mine-Rescue Equipment Plant. These self-contained breathing apparatus are successfully used in Ukraine and abroad for the individual protection of miners.

SSS-1 is designed to protect the breathing organs of workers during the accidents creating an unfriendly environment for breathing.

Modifications SSS-1P and SSS-1PV are developed for mines with highly aggressive environment containing acid mine waters and waters with increased content of corrosion active components: ions of chloride and sulphate. SSS-1 rescuers made Donetsk plant well-known worldwide.

The oxygen booster compressor KD-8 manufactured at the Donetsk Mine-Rescue Equipment Plant is used to fill in the small volume oxygen cylinders for compressed oxygen breathing apparatus.

The pressure maintained by the compressor is 25 mPa (mega Pascal). Apart from oxygen KD-8 can be used for pumping other kinds of non-aggressive gases like air, nitrogen and argon.

The plant manufactures a universal control device UKP-5 for checking the oxygen regenerative breathing apparatus when assembled and in units in the course of their manufacturing.

The device for checking the leak proofness of chemical oxygen self-rescuers -PGS is also manufactured at the Donetsk Mine-Rescue Equipment Plant.

More than 150 modifications of products which have been developed since 1950 prove the plant's enormous experience in manufacturing the mine rescue equipment. Within this period the plant has produced more than six million of chemical oxygen self-rescuers of different kind, more than 90 thousand compressed oxygen respirators, about four and a half thousand compressors and more than 150 million of indicator tubes.

Traditions of manufacturing the high quality products, high technology and growing market demand make future of the Donetsk Mine-Rescue Equipment Plant promising for its management, staff, and customers.
